Like it has for so many people and organizations, COVID has brought challenges to Potluck, the people we employ, and the Downtown Eastside Community.
Thanks to your support, and the support of donors and funders, we were able to turn these challenges into opportunities. We lost 100% of our catering revenue, but we were able to keep people employed and provide aid to our community by providing over 137 000 meals to people in need in the Downtown Eastside. Thanks to your support, we could help our community as it goes through this unprecedented crisis.
However, one big challenge remains: the move into our new location, at 298 East Hastings Street, which we are building out right now.
Before the pandemic hit, we knew we had to leave our current facility due to other service needs in the community. We were on track to move into a new location, better suited to providing additional supported employment and food security programs. We were confident that, through our catering revenue, we could support this move and build out a facility that would allow us to expand our supports to our community.
That means increasing the number of people we employ, who experience barriers like homelessness, mental health challenges, and disabilities. It also means expanded programs and services for residents and partner organizations. It means building more resilience for individuals and our community as a whole.
Your generous gift will complete this facility and allow us to serve our community now and in the future. It will help us continue to provide supported employment now and create additional opportunities in the months to come. It will expand support to the Downtown Eastside.
This will only happen with your support.
Please give generously. We are grateful for your continued support of Potluck Café.
